Bolventor, a quiet hamlet in Cornwall, breathes the wide-open sky of Bodmin Moor. It lies 10.4 km south-east of Camelford (from Camelford: bearing 131°T, OS grid SX 183 767), and is situated south-west of Trewint village. Here, the land rolls with a gentle, almost patient, grandeur, the light often possessing a pearly quality as it catches the heather and gorse. The air itself seems to hold a certain stillness, a hushed reverence for the ancient landscape that cradles Bolventor. One might imagine the murmur of sheep on the wind, a sound as old as the stones of the scattered farmsteads. The nearby waters of Dozmary Pool, rumoured to be the resting place of Excalibur, add a touch of myth to the very soil.
