About Busveal

Busveal remains a quiet constellation of dwellings scattered across the rugged, mineral-rich earth of Cornwall. It lies 1.0 miles east of Redruth (from Redruth: bearing 96°T, OS grid SW 717 418), and is situated west-south-west of St Day village. The landscape here retains the skeletal memory of deep-veined mining, where the land once surrendered copper and tin to the reach of hungry industry. To the south, the granite crown of Carn Marth rises against the horizon, its summit providing a vantage point over the patchwork of fields and gorse-thickened hedgerows. A brief walk towards the east brings one to the Roman Milestone at Mynheer Farm, a solitary stone sentinel that has weathered centuries of Atlantic gales and changing seasons. Busveal experiences a light that seems to clarify the very edges of the stone walls, casting long, sharp shadows across the lanes as the afternoon sun retreats toward the coast. The air carries a crisp, saline sharpness, a reminder of the proximity to the sea that defines so much of this western peninsula. Every path through Busveal offers a passage between the remnants of an industrious past and the persistent, quiet growth of the wild moorland.
