Cadgwith nestles into a steep-sided valley, its cluster of cottages tumbling down towards the sea. It lies 14.3 km south-south-east of Helston (from Helston: bearing 152°T, OS grid SW 721 145), and is situated south of Ruan Minor village. The air here carries the salt tang of the Atlantic, mingling with the scent of wild gorse that carpets the surrounding Lizard Peninsula, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Fishermen's nets, bleached silver by the sun and sea spray, lie drying on the harbour walls, a testament to the enduring lifeblood of Cadgwith. Cobbled lanes, worn smooth by generations of footsteps, wind between the whitewashed buildings, their slate roofs gleaming like scales under the Cornish sky. The dramatic cliffs embrace the small cove, their dark rock a stark contrast to the churning turquoise water below. Even on a calm day, the sea whispers its ancient stories against the shore.
