Little Polgooth, a quiet Cornish hamlet, retains the solid feel of a place built by hand. It lies 3.3 km south-south-west of St Austell (from St Austell: bearing 213°T, OS grid SW 995 497), and is situated south of Polgooth village. The land hereabouts rolls with a muted green, the kind of countryside that has seen more than its share of hard work, the granite bones of Cornwall showing through the soil. A certain stillness often settles over Little Polgooth, broken only by the distant bleating of sheep or the low hum of a passing tractor. The light, when it breaks through the clouds, has a peculiar softness, catching the rough textures of the stone walls and the weathered slate roofs. It is a place that asks little of you, content in its own unassuming existence.
