Lower Dimson retains the quiet gravity of a place once tethered to the industrious pulse of the Tamar Valley. It lies 3.6 miles west-south-west of Tavistock (from Tavistock: bearing 243°T, OS grid SX 428 719), and is situated west-north-west of Gunnislake village. The landscape here is marked by the lingering ghosts of extraction, where the earth still holds the memory of copper and tin within its deep, shadowed seams. A walk toward the western periphery reveals the Gunnislake Clitters Copper, Tin, Arsenic And Wolfram Mine, where the overgrown ruins stand as stark, skeletal reminders of a frantic industrial past. The light in Lower Dimson often takes on a bruised, metallic quality in the late afternoon, catching the edges of the stone remnants that dot the nearby hillsides.
