Salt-crusted hulls and the rhythmic clatter of rigging define the maritime character of Mevagissey. It lies 4.6 miles south of St Austell (from St Austell: bearing 180°T, OS grid SX 012 449), and is situated south of Pentewan village. The Mevagissey Stream carves a narrow, persistent path toward the harbour, its freshwater pulse meeting the brine where fishing trawlers bob in the shifting light. Beyond the stone quays, the landscape rises sharply into verdant slopes that shield the harbour from the raw temper of the English Channel.
