Minions commands the high, windswept reaches of Bodmin Moor, where the air tastes of salt-crusted granite and ancient, unyielding silence. It lies 4.2 miles north of Liskeard (from Liskeard: bearing 8°T, OS grid SX 262 712), and is situated north of Crow's Nest village. The landscape around Minions bears the skeletal remains of a vanished industry, where the stark, vertical form of Houseman’s Engine House marks the horizon like a weathered finger pointing toward the clouds. Weathered stone defines the character of the ground here, particularly where the prehistoric granite monoliths of The Hurlers rise from the heather, their grey surfaces catching a pale, shifting light that seems to hold the weight of centuries. To the east, the hulking mass of Caradon Hill anchors the skyline, its slopes offering a vast, panoramic perspective of the rugged Cornish interior. The earth beneath these moorland paths holds the memory of deep shafts and discarded ore, a testament to the strenuous labour that once defined the life of the local people. Solitude defines the experience of walking these paths, where the wind carries no hum of modernity, only the rhythmic calls of skylarks ascending into the vast, open canopy of the sky.
