About Mixtow

Mixtow observes the silent, tidal pulse of the River Fowey as it carves a slow path through the verdant folds of the Cornish landscape. It lies 0.8 miles north-north-east of Fowey (from Fowey: bearing 14°T, OS grid SX 129 530), and is situated north-north-west of Bodinnick village. The salt-scented air here carries a heavy, ancient stillness, untroubled by the frantic movement of the wider world. To the north, the winding reach of Penpoll Creek pulls at the land, its mudflats reflecting the shifting grey and silver of the Atlantic sky. The terrain rises sharply from the water’s edge, where the light seems to catch on the damp stones and the low, stubborn gorse. A short distance to the south, the weathered remains of the Chapel at Hall stand as a skeletal reminder of medieval devotion, overlooking the estuary with a stoic, sightless gaze. Mixtow remains a place of quiet transition, where the heavy woods meet the river and the rhythm of the water dictates the passing of the day.
