About Morvah

Morvah occupies a stark, wind-scoured shelf of land where the granite earth meets the restless Atlantic horizon. It lies 3.1 miles north-east of St Just (from St Just: bearing 35°T, OS grid SW 401 353), and is situated east-north-east of Pendeen village. Salt-crusted gorse and low-slung stone hedges define the boundaries of Morvah, marking a landscape where the light turns thin and silver as it spills over the rugged western moors. To the south, the ancient stones of the Croftoe British Village remain embedded in the slope, keeping a silent watch over the slow, rhythmic tides of the coast below. The air here holds the sharp clarity of the brine, moving freely through the ruins and the sparse, hardy pastures. A short distance away, the dark, brooding profile of Chûn Castle anchors the high ground, a circular crown of iron-age masonry that commands the view across the plateau. Morvah endures as a place of exposed edges and vast, unshielded skies, where the history of the peninsula is written in the very hardness of the rock. The quietude of the surroundings is rarely broken, save for the sudden, rhythmic call of gulls riding the currents that surge up from the cliffs.
