About Mylor Bridge

Mylor Bridge gathers its slate roofs and chimneys where the tidal waters of the Fal estuary reach inland to meet the wooded slopes of the creek. It lies 1.7 miles north-east of Penryn (from Penryn: bearing 44°T, OS grid SW 804 363), and is situated north-west of Trelew village. Salt-thickened air drifts through the lanes, carrying the damp scent of mud-flats and the quiet industry of boats moored in the shallows. A short distance to the west, the ancient, moss-dusted stone of the Wayside Cross In The Grounds Of Enys stands in silent guardianship over the surrounding parkland. Beyond the village edge, the expansive, eighty-five-hectare grounds of Enys offer a tangled sanctuary of rare trees and fern-choked hollows where light breaks in fractured, pale shafts. Mylor Bridge maintains a stubborn, maritime composure, its character defined by the rhythmic retreat of the tide that leaves behind a shimmering, silver-grey expanse of silt. The landscape here is one of subtle transitions, where the manicured gardens of the landed estates bleed into the wild, reed-fringed margins of the creek. Each winter, the low sun flattens against the water, casting long, sharp shadows that trace the contours of the harbour walls and the narrow, winding veins of the streets.
