Pendeen watches over its wild Cornish domain, a place where the wind carries whispers of tin and granite. It lies 3.2 km north-north-east of St Just (from St Just: bearing 20°T, OS grid SW 383 343), and is situated north-east of Botallack village. The very air here, sharp with salt and the scent of gorse, seems to have been shaped by centuries of mining, the deep veins of the earth echoing in the very bones of the landscape. Cobbled lanes, worn smooth by generations of boots and cartwheels, wind between sturdy stone cottages, their slate roofs gleaming under the vast, ever-changing Cornish sky. The distant murmur of the Atlantic, a constant presence, adds a timeless melody to the sturdy resilience of Pendeen.
