Click Grid to overlay the OS National Grid, labelled along the edges exactly as a printed sheet is — at normal zoom the squares are one kilometre across, so you can read a six-figure grid reference such as NY 266 234 by eye and judge distance directly off the map. Rock commands the northern bank of the Camel Estuary, where the salt-heavy air clings to the hulls of moored craft and the tide dictates the slow pulse of the day. It lies 1.3 miles east of Padstow (from Padstow: bearing 90°T, OS grid SW 938 753), and is situated south-west of Pityme village. Visitors often cross the estuary by ferry, arriving to find a terrain defined by the interplay of deep river channels and the raw, unvarnished edge of the Cornish coast.
