Shop remains a quiet collection of dwellings tucked into the rugged folds of the Cornish coastline. It lies 5.3 miles north of Stratton (from Stratton: bearing 356°T, OS grid SS 227 149), and is situated north-east of Woodford village. Salt-heavy winds push inland from the Atlantic, carrying the sharp, cold clarity of the sea across the fields that surround Shop. The landscape here is defined by the dramatic geology of the Steeple Point To Marsland Mouth SSSI, where the cliffs fracture into the restless water below. Ancient stone markers, such as the Wayside Cross 25M East Of The House Of Tonacombe, stand as lonely sentinels against the encroaching gorse and bracken. Time seems to gather in the hollows of the hedgerows, where the light turns thin and silver in the late afternoon.
