Trenance endures as a cluster of quiet stone habitations overlooking the rugged Atlantic fringe of north Cornwall. It lies 4.6 miles north-west of St Columb Major (from St Columb Major: bearing 304°T, OS grid SW 852 679), and is situated north of Mawgan Porth village. The salt-heavy air here carries a sharp, metallic tang, constantly eroding the edges of the local granite and softening the lines of the landscape. To the north-west, two round barrows stand as silent, grassy sentinels upon the high ground, marking a burial landscape that has watched the horizon for millennia. Below these ancient mounds, the terrain drops away towards the sea, where the geological drama of the Bedruthan Steps reveals jagged monoliths rising from the surf like the ruined teeth of a giant.
