Watergate remains a quiet enclave of stone and shadow, holding its place against the persistent winds of the North Cornwall plateau. It lies 1.7 miles south-south-east of Camelford (from Camelford: bearing 148°T, OS grid SX 119 814), and is situated south-south-east of Tregoodwell village. The heavy, unyielding earth here is marked by the presence of a stone hut circle settlement and a coaxial field system, where ancient boundaries still trace the contours of the rising moorland. These remnants of a prehistoric past suggest a long, silent endurance, far removed from the clamour of modern industry. To the north-west, the solitary 'Long Stone' punctuates the horizon, a grey sentinel that seems to draw the pale, thinning light of evening into its own weathered granite.
