How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Lent

Lent sits quietly within the sprawling, aqueous landscape of la Dombes, a region defined by its ancient fish ponds and a soft, lingering river light. The nearby la Veyle winds through the fields, while the Étang Pommier mirrors the shifting skies of this low-lying plateau. In the distance, the silhouette of le Revermont rises against the horizon, anchoring the otherwise gentle, undulating terrain. The air here carries the damp, earthy scent of the Forêt Domaniale de la Rena, a sanctuary of woodland that invites slow, contemplative walks through the thicket. It is a place where the rhythm of the seasons is measured by the fog that settles in the corridor during the winter months.

Beyond the village, the surrounding countryside reveals a layered heritage. The Église Saint-Nicolas-de-Tolentin de Brou stands as a masterpiece of craft, its intricate stonework offering a profound sense of stillness. Nearby, the Musée municipal de Bourg-en-Bresse preserves the echoes of local life, while the Apothicairerie de l'hôtel-Dieu remains a haunting testament to the careful science of past centuries. One might also catch the imposing outline of the Château de Varax, which watches over the fields from a quiet vantage point. These landmarks provide a grounded connection to the history of the region, far removed from the bustle of the larger industrial valleys nearby.
