How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Saint-Bénigne

Saint-Bénigne sits nestled within the quiet folds of the Ain department, a place where the landscape is defined by the gentle rise of the Mont de la Péralle. The horizon is shaped by the distant Combarnier, while the Bief des Vernettes traces a slow, meditative path through the verdant fields. Here, the air often carries the damp, silver light of the river valleys, a characteristic chill that settles over the land during the winter months. It is a terrain of subtle textures, far removed from the clamor of the world, where the quietude of the Bois de Vescours offers a sanctuary for those seeking the stillness of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region.

Beyond the village limits, the history of the soil reveals itself in fragments. Visitors may wander toward the Gisement préhistorique de Sermoyer, where the deep past feels palpably near, or admire the intricate preservation of the Ancienne commanderie du Temple Sainte-Catherine. Art finds a home nearby at the Musée Chintreuil, which captures the shifting moods of the local light, while the Château de Mareste stands as a silent witness to the passage of time. These landmarks, scattered across the landscape, invite a slower pace of travel, grounded in the authentic rhythms of the countryside and the enduring presence of the Geopark Beaujolais on the horizon.
