How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Tossiat

Tossiat rests within the quiet folds of the Ain department, cradled by the rolling contours of le Revermont. Here, the landscape is defined by the steady presence of the Bief des Bottes and the proximity of the Bois du Seigneur, where the damp, earthy scent of the forest floor lingers long after the morning fog dissipates. To the west, the horizon hints at the fish ponds of la Dombes, while the wider countryside reflects the calm, muted tones of la Bresse. It is a place of transition, where the air holds the chill of the mountains and the soft, lingering light of the river valleys.

Beyond the village boundaries, the terrain invites exploration of a storied past. Visitors may encounter the silent, weathered stones of the Donjon de Buenc, standing as a stark sentinel over the landscape. A short journey leads to the refined architecture of the Château de Pommier or the historic depth of the Musée municipal de Bourg-en-Bresse, which guards the heritage of the region. Further afield, the Église de Saint-Julien-sur-Roche offers a glimpse into earlier centuries. These sites, set against the backdrop of the Parc Naturel Régional du Haut Jura, ground the visitor in a landscape shaped as much by geology as by the enduring influence of the nearby hills.
