How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Lorcières

Lorcières lies tucked within the rolling, granite-strewn expanse of the Monts de la Margeride. Here, the landscape is defined by the steady presence of la Ribeyre and the dark, sheltering embrace of le Suc. High pastures stretch toward the horizon, where the air turns crisp and the winters bite deep into the plateau. A visitor might wander toward the sweeping curves of the Viaduc de Garabit, or explore the quiet stone dignity of the Château de Longevialle and the Château de Ruynes, both standing as silent sentinels over this rugged, windswept country of basalt and shadow.
