How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Chausseterre

Chausseterre rests within the deep embrace of the Monts de la Madeleine, a commune defined by the quiet passage of l'Aix and the pervasive presence of le Fangeas woodland. Nearby, the Col Saint-Thomas offers a gateway into the rugged terrain leading toward the Parc Naturel Régional du Livradois-Forez. In the wider countryside, visitors find the Château de Contenson standing with stoic elegance, the Château de la Merlée settled into the rolling landscape, and the distant, evocative ruins of the Château de Montgilbert, each whispering of a stillness that lingers long after the winter fog lifts from the valley floor.
