La Balme sits within the quiet folds of the Montagne d'Izieu, where the mountain's shadow moves slowly across the valley floor. Nearby, the waters of le Rhône trace a silent path, while the wooded slopes of Bois de Glaize offer a dense, green refuge. In the wider landscape, the peaks of Mont Tournier stand watch over the terrain. Visitors may find the Maison d'Izieu, a place of sober remembrance, or wander toward the Ancienne chartreuse de Pierre-Châtel, where stone walls hold the weight of silence. Not far away, the Cascade de Glandieu tumbles down, a bright, rushing contrast to the still air of the upland pastures.
