How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Les Avanchers-Valmorel

Les Avanchers-Valmorel rests within the Chaîne de la Lauzière, where the Ruisseau de Côte Rouge traces the slopes beneath the looming silhouette of le Cheval Noir. A visitor might venture toward the Aire d'Adhésion du Parc National de la Vanoise or seek the historical intrigue of the Fort de Montgilbert. Further afield, the curious rock formations known as the Cheminées des Fées stand as silent witnesses to the geological drama of these fortified valleys, where the mountain's shadow stretches long across the valley floor.
