Ivrey rests within the Jura, a landscape of limestone plateaux that rise in rhythmic steps toward Mont Poupet. Below the village, the Ruisseau d'Ivrey flows quietly near the dark firs of les Pendants, while the wider horizon is marked by the summit of le Peu. The air here holds the crystalline chill of hard winters. Nearby, the history of the region lingers in the ruins of the Château de Vaulgrenant, while the UNESCO-listed La Grande Saline in Salins-les-Bains echoes with the legacy of salt.
