How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Vandenesse

Vandenesse sits quietly in the landscape where the Morvan's granite and woods meet rolling fields. The commune is cradled by the nearby waters of la Dragne and the tranquil Étang de Chèvres, while the broader horizons are shaped by the Parc Naturel Régional du Morvan. Autumn mist often lingers in these valleys, clinging to the Bois de Morillon. Within the village, the historic Château de Vandenesse stands as a silent sentinel. A short journey leads to the Musee de la Resistance, a place of sober reflection, or to the grand towers of Château d'Arcilly, which rise elegantly above the surrounding countryside.
