How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Saint-Brieuc

Saint-Brieuc sits anchored in the granite heart of Bretagne, where the land meets the English Channel in a tangle of estuaries. The landscape is defined by the deep-set channel of le Gouédic and the nearby greenery of Bois Boissel, offering a quiet transition between the urban streets and the rugged Atlantic edge. Rain often drifts in from the sea, softening the sharp edges of the slate roofs and bringing a long, shimmering light to the summer evenings. In the wider countryside, the hedged bocage and sunken lanes create a sense of deep time, grounding the town in a world of gorse and heather.

Historically, the town has thrived on the rhythms of its maritime heritage and the industry of the land. The spirit of the place is etched into its stone, where the architecture speaks of a sturdy, enduring connection to the soil and the fishing quays. While the pace of modern life continues, the atmosphere remains rooted in a distinct regional identity, marked by the presence of bilingual signage and the enduring legacy of coastal traditions. It is a place where the economy of the sea and the quiet persistence of the interior find a balance.

Visitors are drawn to the Cathédrale Saint-Étienne de Saint-Brieuc, a fortress-like structure that anchors the town’s skyline with its imposing towers. A stroll through the Parc des Promenades reveals a curated stillness, while the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Saint-Brieuc offers a window into the local soul. Further afield, the Tour de Cesson stands as a weathered sentinel overlooking the water, and the Réserve Naturelle Nationale de la Baie de Saint-Brieuc protects the fragile beauty of the coast. These landmarks, carved from the earth, tell the story of a commune that looks both toward the deep woods and the rising tide.
