How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Bourgogne-Fresne

Bourgogne-Fresne rests within the vast, open cereal plains of the Marne, where the sky feels immense and the horizon is defined by the subtle rise of the Savart de Blamont. The landscape carries the quiet, chalky texture of the Champagne pouilleuse, with the Bois de Bourgogne offering a dark, textured contrast to the sweeping agricultural fields. It is a place of deep, silent earth, far from the frantic pace of the world, where the air holds the stillness of history and the land stretches toward the distant Parc Naturel Régional de la Montagne de Reims.

A short journey brings the traveler toward sites that speak of the enduring weight of the past. The Fort de Brimont stands as a brooding sentinel over the plains, its stone walls bearing the marks of a century defined by conflict. Nearby, the Cimetière militaire allemand de Loivre serves as a sober reminder of the quiet, heavy atmosphere that lingers over these former battlefields. Further afield, the Porte de Mars in Reims remains a testament to ancient craftsmanship, while the Cryptoportique de Reims reveals the hidden, subterranean architecture carved deep into the local chalk.
