How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Pillon

Pillon sits quietly upon the Plat de la Valle, a landscape of quiet endurance where the forest comes right up to the fields. The Ruisseau de Pillon meanders through this territory of red ochre stone, while the nearby Bois de Warphemont offers a shadowed refuge. Beyond the village, one finds the Château de Sorbey standing with historical weight, and the silent heights of la Sentinelle offering a vantage point over the cuesta. Further afield, the Ouvrage Latiremont remains a somber witness to the fortified line of Verdun, reflecting the deep, iron-rich history of the Meuse.
