How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Braine

Braine rests within the quiet expanse of the Aisne department, a landscape defined by the rhythmic geometry of beet and wheat fields. Beneath the vast, shifting skies of the Hauts-de-France, the land is marked by the presence of the Bois de Chaudrolle and the gentle flow of the Cours d'Eau 01 de la Pépinière. Not far away, the horizon is anchored by the distant Mont de Lesges, while the waters of the Plan d'Eau des Sables offer a reflective stillness to the wide, open plains. It is a place of low, grey clouds and subtle textures, where the horizon feels immense and the soil speaks of a deep, agricultural patience.

A visitor exploring the surroundings will find the architecture of the region rooted firmly in the earth. The Château du Bas stands as a stoic witness to the passage of time, while the elegant form of the Château de Courcelles punctuates the local horizon. Tucked into the landscape, the Ferme d'Applincourt retains the austere dignity of the rural architecture found throughout this territory. Further afield, the Ancienne commanderie des Templiers du Mont-de-Soissons lingers as a silent monument to a distant past, inviting quiet contemplation amidst the quietude of the countryside, far removed from the bustle of the modern world.

Le visiteur qui arpente les environs découvrira une architecture ancrée dans la rudesse et la noblesse du sol.
