How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Haubourdin

Haubourdin sits firmly within the expansive horizons of the Hauts-de-France, a landscape defined by the heavy, silent presence of brick and the rhythm of the wide plain. Here, the Ancien Canal de la Deûle à Haubourdin cuts a deliberate path through the earth, reflecting a sky often draped in low grey cloud. Nearby, the Bois de la Tortue offers a dense, sheltered contrast to the flat, open fields where beet and wheat once defined the seasonal toil of the region. The air carries the faint, persistent memory of textile mills and the industrial gravity of coalfields that shaped the character of the Nord department.

The town itself retains the sturdy, grounded identity of its architectural heritage, where red brick belfries and traditional dwellings stand as silent witnesses to time. Life here unfolds with a quiet, steady pace, far removed from the frantic pulse of larger urban centers. Whether navigating the local streets or looking toward the neighbouring commune of Emmerin, one senses a deep connection to the soil and the legacy of the plain. It is a place of modest scale, where the horizon remains the most significant feature, stretching out under the vast, shifting light of the north.

Culture in Haubourdin is anchored by its landmarks, which offer a tangible link to the past. The Église Saint-Maclou stands at the heart of the community, its presence a constant anchor, while the Château de la Pierrette whispers of older, landed histories in the surrounding countryside. A short journey away, the Maison du Patrimoine preserves the regional narrative with focused care. For those seeking a deeper communion with the landscape, the Parc Mosaïc provides an evocative space for reflection, while the Citadelle de Lille nearby serves as a stark, monumental reminder of the strategic depth inherent to this corner of France.
