How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Beauvais

Beauvais lies nestled on the banks of the Thérain, a river that weaves through a landscape defined by the expansive, quiet plains of the Hauts-de-France. The horizon here is vast, often draped in low grey clouds that mirror the soft, muted tones of the local brick architecture. Beyond the town, the gentle slopes of the Mont de Bourguillemont rise in the distance, while the nearby Forêt Domaniale du Parc Saint-Quentin offers a dense, emerald sanctuary. It is a place where the rhythm of the land is steady, marked by the turning of seasons over fields of wheat and the quiet presence of the water.

Historically, the city has been shaped by its endurance as a Roman settlement and its prominence as a historic bishopric. The architecture reflects this depth, most notably in the soaring, unfinished heights of the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre de Beauvais, a testament to the ambition of medieval master builders. The Hôtel de Ville de Beauvais stands as a symbol of civic identity, anchored in a past that has survived the shifting tides of conflict and reconstruction. Through the centuries, the town evolved from a religious centre into a hub of industry, standing as a resilient pillar in the Oise department.

Economically, the town has long functioned as a bridge between the agricultural bounty of the plain and the industrial heritage of the region. Textile production once hummed within its walls, leaving behind a legacy of work and artisan skill. Today, the town remains a vital centre, balancing the practical needs of its inhabitants with a deep respect for its surroundings. The nearby Plan d'eau du Canada provides a space for leisure and reflection, mirroring the sky and connecting the community to the natural elements that have sustained this region for generations.

Cultural life here draws from a rich tapestry of local tradition. The MUDO - Museum of the Oise invites visitors to explore collections that anchor the town in its artistic heritage, while the Église Saint-Étienne de Beauvais showcases the intricate masonry typical of the area. Evenings often lead to the Théâtre du Beauvaisis, where the arts continue to flourish. Walking through the Parc Marcel Dassault, one senses the quiet pride of a city that values its history while looking forward, maintaining its unique character amidst the wide, open skies of northern France.
