How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Senlis

Senlis rests within the protected embrace of the Parc Naturel Régional Oise-Pays de France, where the landscape is defined by the gentle presence of la Nonette. Beyond the immediate town, the horizon is shaped by the silhouette of the Butte d'Aumont, rising steadily above the surrounding fields. Nearby, the dense canopy of the Bois Renard provides a quiet refuge, typical of a region where the vast, open skies often gather in low grey clouds. This is a landscape of subtle transitions, far removed from the bustle of the capital, offering a sense of enduring stillness.

The town itself holds its history in the weathered stone of its architecture rather than in the industrial echoes of the northern coalfields. While the wider region is marked by the legacy of brick and the quiet dignity of the Somme war cemeteries, Senlis remains a place of deep, settled antiquity. Its economy has long moved away from the rhythms of the textile mills and the harvest of the wide plains, yet the town retains a distinct, refined character. It serves as a gateway to the woods and the quiet, rolling plains that stretch towards Courteuil and Chamant.

Time seems to linger around the Cathédrale Notre-Dame de Senlis, its spire a testament to centuries of devotion. A short walk away, the ancient stones of the Arènes de Senlis evoke a Roman past, while the Musée d'Art et d'Archéologie preserves the fragments of a long-vanished world. The serene cloisters of the Abbaye Saint-Vincent de Senlis offer a sanctuary for reflection, just as the ruins of the Château royal de Senlis stand as a silent witness to the passage of kings. These landmarks define the soul of the city, grounding its identity in a tangible, storied heritage.
