How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Herlin-le-Sec

Herlin-le-Sec rests within the Plaine de Beaurepaire, a landscape defined by expansive fields of wheat and beet under a wide, shifting sky. The nearby Ramecourt flows quietly through this pastoral expanse, while the Bois de Sains offers a dense, sheltering woodland close by. In the wider countryside, the traces of history remain etched in the landscape; the ruins of the Château-Neuf et Vieux-Château evoke a forgotten grandeur, and the haunting presence of the Bunker de Siracourt marks the earth. Further afield, the Centre Azincourt 1415 invites reflection on the weight of the past, all set against the humble, enduring beauty of brick farms and low grey clouds.
