How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Neuve-Chapelle

Neuve-Chapelle sits quietly upon a wide, alluvial plain where beet and wheat fields stretch towards a horizon often softened by low, grey clouds. The landscape is defined by the steady presence of the Courant des Basses Voies and the nearby Bois du Biez, which mark the slow pulse of the local geography. Brick farms and traditional structures dot the horizon, reflecting a resilient, industrious character that has long endured under the vast, shifting skies of the Hauts-de-France. It is a place of quiet introspection, where the flat, open earth seems to hold the weight of memory in its soil.

Visitors to this serene corner of the Pas-de-Calais find the surrounding area marked by a solemn sense of history. The Le Trou Aid Post Cemetery offers a place of profound stillness, while the Borne Vauthier № 22 serves as a poignant reminder of the region’s troubled past. Nearby, the Musée de la bataille de Fromelles provides clarity on the events that shaped this territory, and the memorial to the members of the Royal Norfolk Regiment massacred at Le Paradis stands as a silent sentinel. These sites weave a tapestry of remembrance across the landscape, inviting a respectful engagement with the layers of time embedded in the local earth.
