How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Saint-Mandé

Saint-Mandé rests on the edge of the capital, a commune defined by the quiet intersection of urban density and the sprawling greenery of the Bois de Vincennes. The landscape is shaped by the Ruisseau de Gravelle, a subtle watercourse that winds through the nearby terrain, while the broader currents of la Marne remain a short distance away. On the horizon, the distant summit of Butte Montmartre marks the boundary of the urban sprawl. The air here holds the faint, lingering memory of royal forests, where the light filtering through the plane trees evokes the stillness of a place caught between the bustling city and the quietude of the wider countryside.

This is a place of refined transition, where the architectural bones of limestone and plaster speak to a long-established history. The town functions as a peaceful enclave, shielded from the relentless pace of the nearby metropolis. It possesses a distinct character, built upon the rhythm of local life and the presence of carefully tended communal spaces like Square Émile Cohl. The economy is quiet and settled, anchored by its proximity to the administrative and cultural heart of the region, yet it maintains a domestic intimacy that feels far removed from the grand, impersonal boulevards of the center.

Culture in Saint-Mandé is anchored by its rich heritage and its immediate access to nature. The Église Saint-Mandé stands as a central pillar of the town’s identity, its presence offering a sense of permanence to the residents. Nearby, the Parc Zoologique de Paris invites a deeper engagement with the living world, while the waters of Lac Daumesnil provide a reflective surface for the sky. For those seeking a deeper history, the Musée National de l'Histoire de l'Immigration offers a sober, essential encounter with the complexities of the past. Together, these landmarks transform the commune into a site of contemplation and discovery.
