How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Marly-le-Roi

Marly-le-Roi sits nestled within the rolling landscape of the Île-de-France, defined by the nearby Bois Noirs and the expansive, windswept Plaine du Trou d'Enfer. The terrain here holds a quiet intensity, where the light of the impressionists once danced upon the river light of the Seine, flowing just beyond the town. Nearby, the Cours d'Eau 01 de la Commune de Marly-le-Roi traces its path through the land, while the horizon is anchored by the distant silhouette of the Butte du Moulin. This is a country of limestone and plaster, where the echoes of royal forests linger in the crisp air of the upland regions.

The commune itself serves as a gateway to both history and nature, balancing the quietude of its streets with the proximity of larger regional landmarks. While the Étang de Saint-Quentin rests in the wider countryside, the local environment feels shaped by the legacy of the monarchy and the quiet persistence of the woods. The atmosphere evokes the stillness of an older world, where market towns have been touched by the rhythmic pulse of modern life, yet remain anchored to the geology of the Yvelines. It is a place of transition, caught between the dense canopy of the trees and the broad, open plains.

Culture here is deeply rooted in the stone and soil of the Domaine national de Marly, where the ghosts of grand gardens still whisper through the trees. Visitors often gravitate toward the Église Saint-Vigor, a structure that anchors the town's architectural identity, or reflect upon the industrial ambition represented by the Machine de Marly. The ruins of the Château de Marly-le-Roi offer a poignant reminder of past grandeur, while the Château de Monte-Cristo stands as a testament to literary imagination nearby. Together, these sites weave a narrative of resilience and creative spirit that transcends the simple passage of time in this storied corner of France.
