How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Dirac

Dirac sits quietly within the landscape of Charente, surrounded by the quiet shade of the Forêt de Dirac and the gentle rhythms of the water nearby. The river l'Anguienne traces its course through this inland terrain, where the light hits the limestone plain with a clarity that recalls the open skies of the wider Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. It is a place of stillness, set apart from the bustling coastal edges, defined instead by the proximity of the earth and the wooded horizon.

Visitors wandering from the village will find history inscribed in stone and craft. The Château de la Tranchade stands as a sentinel over the landscape, its presence anchored in the local soil. Nearby, the Moulin à papier du Verger preserves the echoes of traditional industry, while the ancient Roc de Sers offers a glimpse into a deeper past. The presence of the Musée de la Bande Dessinée provides a striking contrast, grounding the area in a modern narrative of image and sequence that thrives in this corner of France.
