How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Épenède

Épenède rests within a quiet expanse of the Charente, where the land unfolds in gentle undulations. The local horizon is defined by the shadowed depths of the Bois de la Touche, while the Ruisseau de la Grande Homarie traces a slow path through the fields nearby. Beyond the immediate canopy, the landscape retains the memory of ancient stone and silent earth. Visitors may wander toward the Château de Gorce, standing as a stoic sentinel close by, or seek the architectural gravity of the Château d'Ordière. Further into the wider countryside, the Dolmen de Sainte-Madeleine offers a profound, weathered connection to the deep past.
