How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Le Grand-Madieu

Le Grand-Madieu rests quietly amidst the Charente landscape, a place where the air carries the weight of the nearby limestone plains. The gentle flow of la Sonnette shapes the local basin, while the wider horizon is marked by the distant heights of Puyférat and the lush expanse of le Parc de Turgon. Beyond the quiet fields, one discovers the enduring stonework of the Château de Puybautier, the elegant proportions of the Château de Nieuil, and the ancient echoes of the Motte Féodale de Loubert. It is a terrain of subtle shifts, where the scent of damp earth lingers beneath the open sky.
