How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Mornac

Mornac rests within the quiet expanse of the Charente, a landscape defined by the limestone earth and the gentle presence of the Forêt Domaniale de la Braconne. Nearby, the waters of la Bellonne trace their slow path through the terrain, while the heights of the Puy de Sanguin rise on the horizon. It is a place of deep, settled stillness where the land speaks in textures of white stone and shadowed woods, far from the restless energy of the coast.

A visitor might explore the surrounding countryside to discover the ancient Grottes du Quéroy, hidden deep within the rock. History lingers in the local architecture, notably at the Château des Ballans, which stands as a silent witness to time. Further afield, the Château de la Tranchade and the Château de Puyvidal offer a glimpse into the architectural heritage of this region, standing amidst the fields and forests that define the quiet character of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine landscape.
