How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Rouillac

Rouillac rests within the quiet expanse of the Charente department, a landscape defined by the soft, enduring presence of the limestone plain. Close by, the river la Nouère winds through the countryside, while the nearby Bois des Fosses offers a dense, sheltering canopy of ancient trees. The horizon is shaped by the gentle contours of the land, far removed from the dramatic summits of the distant interior. It is a place of steady, understated rhythms, where the light shifts across the fields and the air carries the faint, earthen scent of the vineyards that define the wider region.

Venturing into the surrounding area, one discovers the remnants of an older world etched into the earth. The Théâtre gallo-romain dit des Bouchauds stands as a weathered testament to antiquity, its stones holding the silence of centuries. Nearby, the Château de Neuvicq rises with architectural grace, while the Domaine de Fontguyon offers a glimpse into the storied estates that anchor this territory. Further out, the Église abbatiale Saint-Étienne draws the eye with its intricate Romanesque carved façade, standing as a landmark of stone artistry amidst the white cattle and low hedges of this tranquil, inland expanse.
