How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Fronsac

Fronsac rests within the Bassin de la Dordogne, a UNESCO biosphere reserve where the damp warmth of the valley meets the horizon. Nearby, the river l'Isle flows toward the Dordogne, tracing a path through a landscape defined by vines in strict rows on gravel and the nearby woodland of Palus d'Anguieux. On the horizon rises the Tertre de Montahut, grounding the commune in a quiet, rolling topography. This is a place of tall skies and fertile earth, where the natural world asserts itself in the quiet convergence of water and soil.

Visitors to the village encounter a rich architectural legacy embedded in the landscape. The Tour du Grand Port stands as a silent sentinel, evoking the riverine history of the commune, while the Porte du Port offers a glimpse into the structure of the old settlement. Nearby, the Château de la Dauphine sits amidst the vines, its presence defining the local rhythm of the land. A short excursion reveals the Menhir de Peyrefitte, an ancient stone marker that anchors the wider countryside in a distant, mysterious past, far removed from the bustle of the coast.
