📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Ascain lies nestled where green mountains descend toward the Bay of Biscay, a landscape defined by the shifting light of the Plateau d'Aire Leku. The slopes are often dotted with sheep and pottok ponies, while the Ruisseau des Trois Fontaines winds quietly through the terrain below the looming silhouette of la Rhune. In this part of the country, the air carries the scent of damp earth and the sudden, cleansing rain that leaves the timbered farmhouses shining against the hillsides.
Visitors wandering near the village will find the ancient Pont Romain d'Ascain spanning the water, a bridge that has weathered the centuries in silence. A short journey away leads to the Col de Saint-Ignace, where the iconic Le Train de la Rhune begins its ascent toward the summit. Further explorations reveal the historic Redoute de Souhamendi and the Redoute dite des Emigrés, remnants of a complex history standing watch over the quiet slopes of the Basque country.
Ascain s'inscrit là où les montagnes verdoyantes rencontrent la côte de la baie de Biscaye, un paysage marqué par la lumière changeante du plateau d'Aire Leku. Les pentes sont souvent peuplées de brebis et de pottoks, tandis que le ruisseau des Trois Fontaines serpente paisiblement sous la silhouette imposante de la Rhune. Dans ce coin de pays, l'air porte l'odeur de la terre humide et des pluies soudaines qui laissent les fermes à pans de bois étincelantes sous le ciel.
