How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Cassagnoles

Cassagnoles sits nestled within the quiet folds of the Plateau de Saint-Nicolas, where the scent of box and thyme lingers after the rain. Nearby, the river le Gard traces its path through a landscape defined by the shade of la Bruyère woodland and the distant, mistral-scoured heights of Cante-Perdrix. Travelers wandering the surrounding country will encounter the ancient, weathered stones of the Oppidum de Vié-Cioutat, the sturdy arches of the Porte de Vézénobres, and the resilient silhouette of the Château de Calvières. It is a place held in the long, persistent memory of the Cévennes, where the earth feels anchored to the deep history of these hills.
