How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Toulouse

Toulouse sits firmly within the embrace of the Occitanie region, defined by the slow, steady movement of the Garonne river. This landscape is a tapestry of brick and pink terracotta, where the dry heat of midday is often punctuated by the rhythmic song of cicadas. Beyond the urban core, the terrain opens into rolling hills that eventually reach toward the heights of Mont Betou on the distant horizon. Nearby, the quiet waters of the Réserve Naturelle Régionale de la Confluence Garonne-Ariège provide a sanctuary for local wildlife, offering a stark, natural contrast to the bustling activity of the city streets.

Historically, the city emerged from its Roman foundations to become a significant bishopric and a seat of regional power. Its identity was forged as a vital port, facilitating trade along its waterways, and later transformed by the rise of textile production. This evolution from a ducal stronghold to an industrial hub reflects a legacy of resilience and prosperity. The architecture remains a testament to these eras, with the warm hues of the local brickwork echoing a past where royal influence and commercial ambition shaped the character of the urban landscape.

Today, the commune functions as a vibrant economic heart, anchoring the surrounding region with its blend of tradition and modernity. While the wider countryside features pigeonniers and fields of wheat, the city itself thrives on a reputation for innovation. The atmosphere is distinct, colored by Occitan place names and the culinary heritage of cassoulet and duck. It is a place where the weight of history does not stifle current progress, but rather serves as a foundation for a city that remains perpetually oriented toward the future.

Culture in this city is anchored by its most iconic sites. The Capitole de Toulouse stands as the symbolic center, a majestic square that captures the civic spirit. Visitors often wander toward the Basilique Saint-Sernin, a masterpiece of Romanesque architecture, or find tranquility within the walls of the Couvent des Jacobins. The Musée des Abattoirs bridges the gap between historical industry and contemporary art, while the Pont Neuf remains an enduring connection across the Garonne. For a moment of reflection, the Jardin Japonais offers a serene escape, reflecting the city's ability to balance grand historic gestures with quiet, contemplative spaces.
