How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Pailhac

Pailhac rests as a quiet stone village in the Hautes-Pyrénées, where the chain of the mountains rises like a vast wall against the southern sky. The landscape is defined by the flowing water of la Neste, the shadows of the Bois de Caussihour, and the rugged heights of Pène Guilhemteste. Nearby, the dramatic ascent of the Col d'Aspin invites wanderers to trace ancient paths, while the Réserve Naturelle Régionale du Massif du Montious protects the wild solitude of the peaks. Visitors may also discover the stark stone silhouette of the Tour de la Prison, a lingering sentinel watching over the valley as storms gather in the afternoon heat.
