OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.
Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.
📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.
Mode d'emploi.

Marchastel sits nestled within the Parc Naturel Régional de l'Aubrac, a landscape defined by the bare limestone of the Causse du Villard and the ancient, sheep-worn drailles. Nearby, the waters of le Bès flow quietly towards the horizon, while the serene Lac de Saint-Andéol reflects the vast, open skies. Visitors can wander towards the dramatic Cascade du Déroc, where water plunges over basalt columns, or explore the mysterious Orgues Basaltiques. Further afield, the ancient Station Romaine Ad Silanum offers a silent witness to the passage of time across these mistral-scoured ridges, where the scent of wild thyme lingers after the rain.
