How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Castanet

Castanet sits quietly upon the Causse de Limogne, where the dry heat of midday brings the song of cicadas to the rolling hills of wheat. The Ruisseau de Bourgat traces its path through the landscape, near the quiet shade of le Bois Bas and the rising silhouette of Pech de Verdier. Nearby, the dramatic Gorges de l'Aveyron carve through the earth, offering a rugged contrast to the pastoral fields. Visitors may explore the formidable ruins of the Château de Najac, the elegant stonework of the Abbaye de Beaulieu-en-Rouergue, or the historic arches of the Pont Saint-Blaise, each standing as a testament to the enduring character of this limestone terrain.
