How to Use This Map / Mode d'emploi

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and − buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL FRENCH MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Plan IGN — France's official national map from the Institut national de l'information géographique et forestière — and Photos, the IGN's aerial photography. Two overlays go over any of them: Contours, the IGN's contour lines, and Relief, hillshading from the RGE ALTI one-metre terrain model. The search box finds any place in France or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS reference, as plain UTM, as Lambert-93 (the French national grid, EPSG:2154) and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Mode d'emploi.

About Erdre-en-Anjou

Erdre-en-Anjou rests within a landscape shaped by the gentle, rolling bocage of Maine-et-Loire. Here, the earth holds the memory of ancient industry, where quarried slate once defined the rhythm of daily life. The river la Lussière winds through this quiet terrain, a modest waterway that feeds the surrounding fields and woodlands. Beyond the immediate canopy of the Bois de Vern, the wider countryside opens toward the distant, flowing course of la Mayenne. On the horizon, the silhouette of the Butte du Tertre marks the limit of the view, grounding the commune in a geography that feels both intimate and enduring.

The commune acts as a collection of historic hamlets, including Gené and Vern-d'Anjou, which retain the character of a rural heartland. Life here follows the soft transitions of the seasons, far removed from the bustle of the coast or the clamour of larger urban centres. The architecture of the region reflects a heritage of stone and craft, standing amidst pastures that have been tended for generations. It is a place where the stillness of the marais at dusk feels closer than the sea, offering a sanctuary of calm that defines the spirit of this part of the Pays de la Loire.

Among the local landmarks, the Château de l'Anjouère stands as a silent sentinel of the landscape, its walls echoing the elegance of a bygone era. Nearby, the Fours à chaux de la Veurière offer a glimpse into the industrial past, where fire once transformed the raw stone of the earth. The Moulin à vent de La Landronnière catches the breeze above the fields, while the haunting structure of the Chevalement du puits n°3 des ardoisières serves as a stark monument to the miners who laboured below. Finally, the Château de Ribou completes this portrait, anchored in a history that remains etched into the quiet beauty of the region.
