Neustadt (Wied) liegt eingebettet in die sanften Hügel des Vorderwesterwalds, durchzogen vom beständigen Lauf der Wied. Die Gemeinde ist Teil des Naturparks Rhein-Westerwald und findet ihre natürliche Grenze am Staatsforst Altenkirchen sowie dem nahen Naturschutzgebiet Berschaue. Der Bertenauer Kopf erhebt sich ruhig über das Gelände und bildet einen festen Bezugspunkt in einer Landschaft, die von einer melancholischen Beständigkeit geprägt ist. In der Umgebung, etwa bei Rott, spürt man die Weite der Region, die sich in der Ferne bis zum Hartenfelser Kopf erstreckt.
