How to Use This Map / So nutzen Sie die Karte

Use the Map and Satellite buttons to switch between the street map and aerial imagery, and the + and buttons to zoom. Click ⛶ Fullscreen for a larger view; press Escape or tap ✕ Exit Fullscreen to return.

OFFICIAL GERMAN MAPS. The green 🔍 Search Maps button opens a second map with three base layers: OSM (OpenStreetMap), Kartebasemap.de, Germany's official national map from the federal and state survey offices — and TopoTopPlusOpen, the topographic map of the Federal Agency for Cartography and Geodesy (BKG), which continues seamlessly across the border. The search box finds any place in Germany or beyond by name.

Click Grid to overlay the UTM grid used on German topographic maps (zone 32 west of 12°E, zone 33 east of it) — one-kilometre squares at normal zoom. Click Measure and tap two points for the distance plus the grid, true and magnetic bearing.

📍 My position takes a single GPS reading and shows it as an MGRS / UTMREF reference — the format German mountain rescue works in — as plain UTM, and as latitude and longitude, with a Copy position button. Map tiles need mobile coverage; a GPS reading does not.

Bedienung.

About Leipzig

Leipzig lies cradled within the Leipziger Tieflandsbucht, a landscape defined by the gentle presence of the Weiße Elster and the expansive, quiet green of the Elster- und Pleiße-Auwald. The city breathes with the rhythm of a historic trading hub, its character shaped by the legacy of merchants and scholars who once walked these streets. Beyond the urban core, the forest Leipziger Ratsholz offers a sanctuary of shadowed paths and ancient stillness, while the distant rise of the Halde Trages marks the horizon in the wider countryside. It is a place where the weight of history rests lightly upon the cobblestones, inviting a slow, contemplative wander through its storied quarters like Gohlis.

Historically, the city flourished as a centre of commerce and intellectual exchange, a ducal residence that drew thinkers and artists into its fold. Its rise as an industrial centre left an imprint on the architecture, which stands today as a testament to the cycles of prosperity and change. The memory of the city is anchored in the Gedenkstätte Museum in der 'Runden Ecke', which stands as a sober reminder of the recent past, preserving the voices that once struggled for freedom. This history is not merely a record of events but a living presence that informs the quiet dignity of the streets and squares.

Economically, the city serves as a vital anchor for the region of Saxony, bridging the gap between its artisanal heritage and a modern, forward-looking pulse. The local spirit is defined by a commitment to quality and craftsmanship, echoing the traditions of its long-standing trade fairs. As the city continues to evolve, it maintains a careful balance between the preservation of its heritage and the demands of contemporary life, ensuring that the character of the city remains distinct and resilient amidst the shifting currents of the modern age.

Cultural life in the city finds its most profound expression in the silence of the Nikolaikirche, where history was once written by the gathered faithful. The Völkerschlachtdenkmal stands as a monumental guardian, its granite form reflecting the complexities of the past. Music remains the soul of the city, nowhere more vibrant than in the Gewandhaus zu Leipzig, where every note resonates with the spirit of masters. Visitors may also find quiet reflection at the Thomaskirche, explore the treasures of the Museum der bildenden Künste, or lose themselves in the verdant expanse of the Botanischer Garten der Universität Leipzig.
